Remembering Dr. Eugene Braunwald
The Leducq Foundation mourns the loss of Dr. Eugene Braunwald, who passed away on April 22, 2026 (tributes from the NYT, ACC, AHA, and ESC). In a career spanning decades, he had an extraordinary impact on cardiovascular research and practice. His impact on the Leducq Foundation was no less noteworthy. At the request of his friend and first fellow, Dr. Robert Frye, he joined the Leducq Foundation Scientific Advisory Committee, giving a fledgling organization instant credibility. With co-committee member Kim Fox, Gene designed the networks program for which the Leducq Foundation is best known, and which continues largely unchanged. He would go on to serve as a founding member of the Broadview Ventures Strategic Advisory Board, where he participated up to 2026. We at the Leducq organization are grateful for his many contributions over the years, and like the many whose lives he touched, we will miss him.
Leducq Foundation announces the International Networks of Excellence Awards for 2025.
